Valincy-Jean Patelli is a self-taught Black Non-binary artist working and living in Brooklyn, New York. Patelli experiments with three-dimensional textures to create mixed-media works and sculptures. This nonlinear process allows them to blend stories from their ancestors with theoretical and cultural references from the African diaspora. Valincy's work explores the marginalization of Queer and Black American culture through environmental and historical allusion. They create multi-layered textures by transforming common materials into Artifacts and Heirlooms. Patelli places particular importance on their choices of materials, such as gold, plaster, wood, burlap, canvas, and other non-traditional mixed media; they intend to invoke radical and provocative stories that challenge this intersectional narrative of Queer Blackness.

Patelli’s career spans national and international venues, including Patio Taller Residency in Puerto Rico (2014) and a self-directed residency in Berlin, Germany (2015-2016). Exhibitions of note include  I Will Always Love: The Whitney Houston Biennial, Chashama, NYC (2016), Site Specific: Kunsthof, Berlin, Germany (2016), The Sheen Center: Little Rock 9: 1957 (2018), UNRPED Group Show, Los Angeles (2020-2022), Por um Teto Todo Nosso (For a Roof of Our Own) Uncool Artist Collective: Centro de Cultural Laura Alvin, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2022-2023) and NOoSPHERE Arts’ Repopulations: New Horizons (2022).

Patelli’s work is held in numerous North American and European private collections.
